What kind of academic background are you looking for?
This program requires applicants to have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from academic institutions in other countries.
Students enrolling in this program should have an undergraduate degree. Exposure to introductory computer programming and undergraduate level calculus through credit bearing coursework or online certification is a prerequisite. If a student does not meet this pre-requisite, bridging courses in introductory programming or math for data science may be recommended.
If I meet the admissions criteria, will I be automatically admitted to the program?
No applicant is automatically admitted to the master’s program. All applications will be reviewed by the admissions committee to make certain applicants are prepared to succeed in the program.
What if my GPA is below a 3.0?
It is possible to earn admission to the program with an upper division and graduate-level GPA . Admission decisions are made by the graduate admissions committee. Committee members consider many factors in their final decision including GPA, past coursework, academic transcripts, experiences related to data science, letters of recommendation, statements of purpose, resumes/CVs, and standardized test scores.
Is the GRE required?
A GRE score is not required for admission to our program. If provided, GRE scores will be considered. There is no minimum GRE test score requirement. However, applicants admitted to our data science programs usually have high quantitative scores (80th percentile or higher) and verbal scores of 50th percentile or higher.
Does the online Data Science MS program offer F1 or OPT status?
Our online program does not offer visa status.
Am I eligible to apply if I have OPT or F1 status?
International students who are inside the US and have an immigration status may not be eligible for our program. Some students with F1 and OPT status have certain visa restrictions that prevent online study. If you fall into this category, contact the to verify your eligibility for our programs.

Can I submit my GRE/TOEFL scores and transcripts after the application deadline?
To be considered for admission, all required and optional materials are due by the final application deadline.
Can GMAT replace the GRE?
We do not accept GMAT scores.
Will there be an application fee?
We are currently waiving the application fee for this program.
Is the TOEFL required for international students?
Official English language proficiency test scores are required. TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo scores are acceptable.
We strongly encourage non-native English speakers to submit an additional one-page narrative essay describing their experience with the English language, including formal study in English, time spent in an English-speaking environment, challenges they overcame and/or their comfort level speaking and writing in English.
Where should my test scores be sent?
Score reports may be sent from Education Testing Service (ETS) or may be self-reported.
Applicants who self-report must provide a PDF copy of their ETS score report to their application in the "Other Documents" section for review.
If sending from ETS:

- Be sure to use the exact same spelling of your name on both your application and test score report.
Will I need to provide a translated version of my transcript?
Yes, transcripts written in a language other than English must be accompanied by a .
If my transcript is from a foreign university, do I need to submit a foreign credential evaluation from WES or another organization?
A WES is required for threeyear degrees. A foreign credential evaluation is not required. If a transcript is written in a language other than English, a complete and official English translation together with the original transcript.
Will the university ask my recommender for a letter of recommendation?
You will be given the opportunity to list the name, position, organization and email addresses for two or three recommenders when you complete the first portion of the application. After you submit this portion, emails will be sent to your recommenders directing them to a website where they can upload their letters.
Do you offer scholarships?
Yes, partial merit-based tuition discounts are offered for qualified admitted students. We do not offer full scholarships. You do not have to fill out any extra paperwork to be considered for the merit scholarship. It is part of our application.
May I apply if I already have a graduate degree?
Yes. However, if your previous graduate degree is in an area very closely related to healthcare data science, the committee would like to better understand why you want to apply. You should provide a comparison between your previous graduate program and this online program. Providing such information in your statement of purpose will aid in the admissions and approval process.
Will I be able to transfer credits from another university to this program?
Up to , may be transferred pending approval from the graduate advisor and degree evaluator.
Curriculum and Courses

How is the instruction delivered in this online program?
Instructor-paced courses operate on a fixed schedule with regular lectures and class meetings at fixed days and times during the entire semester. All these lectures and interactions will happen via Zoom and make use of the online learning platform, Blackboard.
At the beginning of the semester, the instructor will provide the schedule of learning activities, deliverables, and milestones via a published course syllabus. There will be fixed and published due dates for all course assignments. The instructor sets specific due dates for assignments and exams, and you complete the entire course within a single semester.
The course materials are made available as they are presented in class or ahead of time as the course progresses. The lectures will also be recorded for offline viewing and review, but we strongly encourage students to attend the synchronous lectures to maximize their learning.
Can you start taking classes in the fall or the spring?
Currently, our program is available to start only in the fall.
Are 天美视频 faculty teaching the online master鈥檚 courses?
Yes, 天美视频 faculty teach all courses in the data science online master’s programs.
Is this program accredited?
Yes. This program was approved by the New York State Education Department in 2024. In addition, the 天美视频 is an accredited institution by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The MSCHE is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Will my degree say 鈥渙nline鈥?
Degrees earned from the data science and AI online program do not say “online”. The degrees on the diplomas read as follows: Master of Science in Data Science and AI.
Is this degree equivalent to a degree earned by on-campus students?
This online master’s degree in data science is closely modeled after the 天美视频’s renowned on-campus program, ensuring you benefit from the robust curriculum and full-scale master’s degree programs.
How many credit hours will I need in order to graduate?
To graduate, you will need 32 credit hours. The program consists of eight, four-credit courses.
How long will the program take me to complete?
Our 32-credit-hour online master’s programs is designed to be completed over the course of 10 months or up to 22 months. The maximum allotted time to complete the program will be 5 years.
Do I have to maintain a certain GPA in order to stay in the program?

Students will be charged per credit hour at the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences rate. Students will also be charged the mandatory health fee and a graduate activity fee.
International students will also be charged an international student fee.
How many courses will I be allowed to take at a time?
A full-time student may take up to four courses each semester. A part-time student may take up to two courses each semester. The online master’s courses are of comparable rigor to the 天美视频’s on-campus courses. For working professionals or students with significant additional obligations, we highly recommend taking only one to two courses per semester.
When will the semester start and end?

Will exams be proctored in the master鈥檚 programs?
The 天美视频 is strongly committed to ensuring that our programs adhere to the highest standards for academic integrity. Students should expect that exams may be proctored or otherwise monitored to comply with these goals.
Student Experience
While healthcare data science and AI students are not required to be on campus, they are welcome to! Our department, along with others, offer several events throughout the year for local students who'd like to attend. See our event calendar for a list of upcoming events!
Will there be any required on-campus activities?
No. However, we provide many opportunities for students in this online program to engage with the campus community for professional development and networking. To facilitate these interactions, we invite you to attend optional immersion events that represent milestones at different timepoints in the program.
These immersion events include:
- Academic Orientation (August)
- Meliora Weekend (October)
- Practicum Presentation (April/May)
- Graduation (May/June)
In addition, students are also be welcome to perform their practicum projects with the and visit the lab periodically in person.
NOTE: These immersion events are OPTIONAL.
Will I have an instructor or TA interaction?
All faculty instructors will host office hours via Zoom where students can meet with them to discuss course topics and get general advice. In addition, there will be TAs assigned to each course who will also host office hours at announced times.
In addition to these standing meetings, instructors and/or TAs will be available through email, online discussion boards, and additional virtual office hours as needed.
What kind of laptop is needed for this program?
Either a MacBook Pro or a Windows PC will suffice. The following recommendations should provide a good experience across all courses:

Are there opportunities for me to assist course instructors?
Yes. Students who have excelled in a course may be invited to apply to serve as a teaching assistant (TA) for that course in a future semester.
TAs provide additional support and communication to students. These appointments are part-time (typically expect up to eight hours effort per week) and awarded at the discretion of faculty and program staff. TAs are expected to hold virtual office hours for the students to answer any questions about homework, assignments, projects, and provide general course support.
